West Mifflin is a heavily residential borough in Allegheny County, southeast of Pittsburgh along the Monongahela River. The 2020 Census counted 19,589 people, and about four in five homes are detached single-family houses. The median home was built in 1956, so about half the homes are older than that. At that age, a tired detached garage or a dated kitchen may be next in line to come out.
If you need a demolition contractor in West Mifflin, PA, Davis Demolition and Masonry comes out from Pittsburgh. In the demolition business since 2001, we handle house demolition, garages, sheds, decks and gut-outs here. Masonry is our second line: brick pointing and repair, chimneys, retaining walls and small concrete work. Call or text (412) 720-1866, and we look at the job and give you a price before any work starts.

Demolition permits in West Mifflin come from the borough. Its Community Development department handles permits for building and renovation, occupancy, grading and signs. The same department enforces the borough's zoning, building, property maintenance, fire and electrical codes.
The borough's demolition permit application asks for two copies of a survey of the lot showing the structure. It also asks, where it applies, for a release from the utility companies. That release states the meters, regulators and service connections were removed, sealed or plugged safely. For commercial demolition, the form requires asbestos clearance from the Allegheny County Health Department.
The form covers single-family houses, duplexes, multi-family and commercial buildings, and accessory structures. It also asks how many stories the building has and what it is built of. The 2026 fee schedule sets the permit fee by the building's square footage, in separate residential and commercial tiers. When we quote the job, we go over what the borough requires and who handles each step.
Of the borough's 8,972 homes, 3,230 were built in the 1950s, far more than in any other decade. About half went up in the 1940s and 1950s, and fewer than 1 in 20 since 2000. Behind houses like these, we take down detached garages, and shed removal covers sheds, decks, porches and above-ground pools.
For garage demolition, the excavator pulls down the roof and walls, whether they are frame, block or brick. An air-powered jackhammer or the machine breaks out the slab, and concrete removal covers old walks and patios too. Once a garage is gone, we can clean up the area, then topsoil and seed it.
Inside, a house this age may need a gut-out to the studs before a remodel or a sale. We come from a building background, so on interior demolition we can tell which walls, wires and pipes must stay. More than three in four homes here were built before 1970. We are EPA lead-safe certified for renovation work in pre-1978 homes.
West Mifflin's landscape is largely hilly and wooded. Much of the original ground was changed by slag and fly ash dumped from the steel mills. Across Allegheny County, a U.S. Geological Survey study found about 15 percent of the land prone to landslides. On a sloped yard, a retaining wall holds the ground back.
We build retaining walls in block, brick, stone, poured concrete and timber, including railroad ties. When an old wall fails, we tear it out before building the new one. Under the state building code, a home retaining wall over 4 feet high needs a permit, and a large excavation may need a borough grading permit.
For older brick, brick pointing renews worn mortar joints and brick repair replaces damaged brick. We also pour concrete sidewalks and patios. West Mifflin's 2026 fee schedule lists patios under its building permit fee. For market numbers, see what a concrete patio costs in Pennsylvania.
To the north, West Mifflin borders Munhall, Whitaker and the Pittsburgh communities of Lincoln Place and Hays. Duquesne sits to the east and Dravosburg to the southeast. Jefferson Hills, Pleasant Hills and a short stretch of Clairton lie to the south, with Baldwin to the west. The borough is home to Kennywood, one of America's oldest traditional amusement parks, and the Allegheny County Airport.
From Pittsburgh we come out Route 885, which leaves the city through Hays and follows Mifflin Road toward the airport. As Lebanon Road, it passes right under a runway of the Allegheny County Airport. Farther south, it briefly runs with Lebanon Church Road, part of the Yellow Belt. On a hillside lot, getting the excavator and skid steer in takes planning, and that goes into the price.

Clinton came quickly after we called him for estimates and ideas on tearing down our huge garage. He gave us a very fair estimate, and upon us signing the contract, the job was started and completed faster than we expected. It was extremely hot through the whole job! Also did a great cleanup/hallway job, topsoil and seeded, done! Would highly recommend. Thank you so much for a job well done, Clinton!Thank your helper for us as well!
We hired Davis Demo to clear out our demo debris and then later hired to repoint our interior masonry and make sure it stayed structurally sound. Shorty was great to work with. He was able to get in and start quickly both times, communicated really well, and we are happy with his work! They even mopped the floor when they were done! Would definitely hire again.
Davis Demolition preformed selective interior demolition on a residential home I was remodeling. Their pricing was fair and they worked quickly to get the job done. They were responsive to addressing added scopes of work and easy to work with. I’ll continue using Davis Demo for future demolition needs.
Hired davis demolition to tear down and remove a large shed. They did the job quickly and left the site clean. Also great communication. Would definitely reccomend.
Received a fair quote over the phone, when arrived price did increase slightly due to additional work needed for structure removal. Very easy to work with and extremely helpful. Additionally, Clinton removed some debris unrelated to structure. Left the worksite clean after job. Thank you for your hard work. Definitely would recommend.
Clint has done work for me on multiple occasions. Always goes above and beyond. He is my first call for any work on any of my projects on my personal property or any of my rental properties. Appreciate his dedication to his craft!
