In the 2019-2023 Census survey, about one in ten housing units stood vacant. On houses this old, demolition work runs to worn-out garages and gut-outs before a remodel.

In Jeannette, the city's own Department of Building and Code enforces the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code. Its demolition permit is a UCC permit, with one application for a residential or commercial building. The form asks for the contractor's information and a signed contract. It also asks what the building is used for and how many stories it has.
A commercial demolition asks for more. The application needs a site plan and a 10-day letter from the state DEP. The plan shows whether the ground will be filled to grade and seeded, or fenced off ahead of new construction. When we quote the job, we go over what the city requires and who handles each step.
The same department runs the city's zoning rules on where garages, sheds, fences and pools can sit. That matters if a new garage will go up where the old one stood. The department also enforces the International Property Maintenance Code on blighted and abandoned property. The city has contracted the removal and site clearance of fifteen residential properties itself.
Before a building comes down, each service has to be shut off and capped. The city lists M.A.W.C., the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County, for water and sewage. It lists Columbia Gas for gas and West Penn Power for electric. The utility or a licensed trade disconnects and caps each service, and we start once that is done.
Jeannette is in Westmoreland County, so the state DEP takes the asbestos notice under the federal rule. That notice is the 10-day letter the city's form asks for on commercial jobs. The federal rule covers any demolition at a commercial building, and a thorough asbestos inspection comes first. It excludes residential buildings with four or fewer units.
Even so, the state DEP and the city's code office set what applies to your building. A licensed abatement contractor removes any asbestos before we start. At least seven in ten homes here were built before 1978. We are EPA lead-safe certified for renovation work in pre-1978 homes.
About one in three homes in Jeannette was built before 1940, and about seven in ten before 1960. Garage demolition takes down frame, block and brick garages, and shed removal covers sheds, decks and porches. For a whole house, our excavator takes it down. We haul the debris off and leave the lot clean and graded.
Under Ordinance 15-04, every property that is not owner-occupied registers for an occupancy permit and a fire safety inspection. A building with one to three units is inspected before any new tenant moves in. Landlords and investors readying a unit may start with interior demolition, a gut-out down to the studs. With a building background, we take out what has to go and leave what has to stay.
On older brick, brick pointing renews worn mortar joints and brick repair replaces damaged brick. Chimney repair and removal covers repointing, rebuilding and taking chimneys down. Where a yard steps down a slope, we build retaining walls in block, brick, stone, concrete or timber. For a tall wall, the city's code office sets when a permit and an engineer's design are needed.
Jeannette began in 1888 and took its name from Jeannette Hartupee McKee, wife of one of its founders. It earned the nickname the glass city, and as many as seven significant factories operated here, among them some of the best-known names in the glass industry. The town became a third-class city on January 1, 1938. Clay Avenue is its main street and business district.
The city covers 2.39 square miles. Penn Township borders it to the northwest, and Hempfield Township to the southeast. Route 130 links the city with Harrison City in Penn Township. Bushy Run Battlefield, a historic park, sits on Route 993 near Harrison City and Jeannette.
From Pittsburgh, we come out US Route 30 past Irwin and the Turnpike's Irwin interchange. The road passes Adamsburg and Lincoln Heights, then runs along Jeannette's southern border. The city sits about 20 miles from our base, inside the roughly 40 miles we work.

Clinton came quickly after we called him for estimates and ideas on tearing down our huge garage. He gave us a very fair estimate, and upon us signing the contract, the job was started and completed faster than we expected. It was extremely hot through the whole job! Also did a great cleanup/hallway job, topsoil and seeded, done! Would highly recommend. Thank you so much for a job well done, Clinton!Thank your helper for us as well!
We hired Davis Demo to clear out our demo debris and then later hired to repoint our interior masonry and make sure it stayed structurally sound. Shorty was great to work with. He was able to get in and start quickly both times, communicated really well, and we are happy with his work! They even mopped the floor when they were done! Would definitely hire again.
Davis Demolition preformed selective interior demolition on a residential home I was remodeling. Their pricing was fair and they worked quickly to get the job done. They were responsive to addressing added scopes of work and easy to work with. I’ll continue using Davis Demo for future demolition needs.
Hired davis demolition to tear down and remove a large shed. They did the job quickly and left the site clean. Also great communication. Would definitely reccomend.
Received a fair quote over the phone, when arrived price did increase slightly due to additional work needed for structure removal. Very easy to work with and extremely helpful. Additionally, Clinton removed some debris unrelated to structure. Left the worksite clean after job. Thank you for your hard work. Definitely would recommend.
Clint has done work for me on multiple occasions. Always goes above and beyond. He is my first call for any work on any of my projects on my personal property or any of my rental properties. Appreciate his dedication to his craft!
